August Wilson's Fences

August Wilson's Fences at The Forum Theatre - KS

What happens when a father's broken dreams become his son's prison? August Wilson's Fences plunges you into 1957 Pittsburgh, where Troy Maxson, once a star of the Negro baseball leagues and now a garbage man, wages war against a system that locked him out of the major leagues in his prime. At The Forum Theatre on Saturday, November 7, 2026 at 8:00 PM, you could witness the collision of fury, love, and survival.

Troy's rage doesn't stay contained. It spills onto his wife Rose, who holds the family together while absorbing his frustration. It crashes into his son Cory, who dares to dream of athletic future, the very path his father was denied. Aaron Profit takes on the role of Troy Maxson in a production that runs from October 29 through November 15, giving Wichita audiences multiple performances of this cornerstone work.

That comes from watching a family fracture under the pressure of systemic injustice and personal pride. Live theatre delivers what screens never can: actors working through these family conflicts in front of you, one exchange at a time.

You could leave The Forum Theatre carrying the weight of questions Wilson refuses to answer neatly. Follow the argument beyond the stage with someone who enjoys a challenging drama. Find ticket options for Fences at The Forum Theatre in Wichita for the Nov 7, 2026 performance.
