August Wilson's Fences

August Wilson's Fences at The Forum Theatre - KS

August Wilson's Fences brings a father's broken dreams into collision with his son's future.

The story follows Troy Maxson, a former Negro League baseball star now working as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Denied a major league career in his prime, Troy's bitterness affects his wife Rose and his son Cory, who wants his own chance to play professionally. The New York Post wrote that it was one of the richest experiences in theatre, saying audiences were transfixed.

Wilson's language carries the weight of dreams deferred and promises broken. You'll sit at The Forum Theatre on Sunday, November 8, 2026 at 2:00 PM and witness the heat of arguments that echo across generations, the quiet devastation of love tested beyond its limits.

The New York Daily News declared it a blockbuster and major American play for a reason, this is live theatre that doesn't just entertain, it holds up a mirror you can't look away from.

August Wilson's Fences strips away every comfortable illusion about family, loyalty, and what America owes the people it leaves behind. Make this family drama part of your Sunday theatre plans. Find ticket options for Fences at The Forum Theatre in Wichita for the Nov 8, 2026 performance.
