August Wilson's Fences

August Wilson's Fences at The Forum Theatre - KS

A father's bitterness collides with his son's dreams in August Wilson's Fences. Set in 1957 Pittsburgh, this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama follows Troy Maxson, a former Negro League baseball star now working as a garbage man, wrestling with rage over opportunities denied. The Forum Theatre presents it Friday, November 13, 2026 at 8:00 PM.

Aaron Profit embodies Troy in this production, navigating a man who survived injustice but inflicts his own damage on wife Rose and son Cory. Every speech reveals another layer: a husband betraying trust while trying to love, a father blocking his son's football dreams while claiming protection. Wilson's language crackles with humor, pain, and poetry as choices echo across generations.

Live theatre delivers what film cannot: breathing actors creating emotional shifts that ripple through the room, the communal silence when truth lands. That immediacy happens only when you're present to witness a family unraveling and fighting to hold together.

August Wilson's Fences strips away easy answers and puts raw family conflict on stage. Take someone who enjoys a story that leaves room for disagreement. Troy's choices offer plenty to discuss afterward, making this a theatre outing that can continue in conversation once you leave the room. Make an evening of Wilson's drama.
