August Wilson's Fences

August Wilson's Fences at The Forum Theatre - KS

Troy Maxson was a star in the Negro baseball leagues, denied his shot at the majors when it mattered most. Now he hauls garbage in 1957 Pittsburgh, his bitterness poisoning his marriage to Rose and his bond with son Cory, who dreams of playing ball professionally. August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece arrives at The Forum Theatre on Sunday, November 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM, delivering a raw family drama set against the brutal realities of postwar America.

Live theatre strips away every protective layer between you and this family's escalating conflict. Wilson's dialogue lands with the force of truth as broken dreams and stubborn love collide onstage.

This production in Wichita invites you into a family conflict that asks you to consider where love, pride and protection come apart. You experience the weight of every accusation, every wound, every moment of hope struggling against history's verdict. The intimacy of live performance amplifies the stakes as Wilson's characters grapple with ambition, betrayal, and what it costs to protect the people you love when the world has already decided you lose.

The New York Post captured it perfectly: "One of the richest experiences I have ever had in the theatre. Consider where Troy's pride ends and his love for his family begins. Find ticket options for Fences at The Forum Theatre in Wichita for the Nov 15, 2026 performance.
